Q: How long have you been in business?

A: Sheer Vinyl performed for the first time in December 1984.  Since that first function we performed at thousands of events such as weddings, corporate functions, anniversaries, summer festivals, reunions … and the list goes on.  We performed at a variety of venues from back yard parties to The McCormick Place.

Q: What do your Disc Jockeys wear to an event?

A: It depends on the type of event and whatever the person(s) who hires us is requesting.

We have several options – Tuxedo, Suit, Business Casual or Casual wear.

Q: What time do the Disc Jockeys arrive at my event?

A:  If the event is at a location the Disc Jockey is familiar with, 45 minutes to 1 hour  before.  If they are unfamiliar with the location, 1 hour to 1 hour and fifteen minutes before.

Q: Can I pick every song that is played at my event?

A: This is not a good idea.  We know from experience that if someone picks every song played, that event will fail on a social level.  In other words, it will bomb!  We like to let the people that hire us, choose a certain number of songs and then let the party flow choose the rest.  In other words, leave it in our hands.  We can take requests from the people who are dancing and then fill it in with whatever type of music is working for that crowd.  Remember you want to try and please everyone that attends your party, not just yourselves.  A compromise in musical taste is sometimes needed to bridge that gap.

Q: Can I request certain songs not be played at my event?

A: Yes, you can.  However, when deciding what songs you don’t want played at your event, think about how your guests may feel about the songs you place on your “do not play” list.  We find that many times our customers choose not to play songs that are quite popular with most age groups.  That can be very disappointing to many people at your event.  So, we ask that you carefully consider your guests when determining what songs will not be played at your event.

Q: We want to book you for our event.  When is the deposit due and when is the balance payable due?

A: If you are considering booking Sheer Vinyl for your event, we suggest making the deposit through our web site as soon as possible, as we cannot hold a date without first receiving a deposit.  This protects you also knowing that you have us under contract for your event.  The balance can be paid at any time, but must be received by the day of the event before services are performed.

Q: If our guests are really enjoying themselves, can we add additional hours on the day of the event?

A: Yes.  However, it is imperative that you first receive permission from the facility to extend the event.  You certainly do not want to extend our performance time only to find out that the management of the facility will not allow additional hours.  We also ask that you give us as much of a notice as possible so that we can make our music selections accordingly.  Payment for the additional time must be made at the time we agree to extend the hours.

Q: Can we meet and speak directly with the Disc Jockey who is scheduled to perform at our event?

A: You certainly can!  We believe it is very important for those who hire us to work directly with the Disc Jockey who is scheduled to perform.  It is very reassuring to those who hire us to arrive at their event and see the same individual with whom they discussed all of the important details of their event.  Also, that same DJ will closely monitor your customer portal of our web site. This way, they can be aware of any changes or additions that you make to your song list or timetable for your event. You will also receive a phone call from that Disc Jockey several days before the event to go over any last minute changes and to review the itinerary for that day.

Q: Will you accept song requests from our guests?

A: Absolutely!  Our primary goal is to not only satisfy those who hire us, but to please those who attend as your guest.  However, we use very good judgment when playing songs requested by your guests.  First and foremost, we do not play any song requests that can be considered suggestive or contain offensive lyrics.  Second, we certainly consider whether or not the request will appeal to the majority of those attending.  And finally, you hire us to perform music that will make your guests want to get out on the dance floor and dance, dance, dance!  Therefore, we try to stay away from music that is geared to “listening” only.  We certainly don’t want to clear the dance floor just to accommodate one guest’s request.
